2.4D 720G/L, 860G/L SL herbicide was used on a variety of terrestrial and aquatic broadleaf weeds. It has little effect on grasses. It appears to act by causing uncontrolled cell division in vascular tissues. Abnormal increases in cell wall plasticity, protein biosynthesis, and ethylene production occur after exposure to plant tissues, and these processes are responsible for uncontrolled cell division. the ester form of 2, 4-D penetrates the leaves, while the plant roots take up the salt form. 2, 4-D appears to act similarly to other growth hormone herbicides. It is absorbed by the leaves and roots and transferred to the weed plant.
